Beatings By Dre: Dr. Dre Talks Assault Allegations in Rolling Stone

Dr. Dre & Ice Cube Rolling Stone

Dr. Dre is one of the richest guys in Hip Hop, he’s part of the legendary NWA rap group, he’s brought us the likes of Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent and The Game. He finally delivered the Detox 2 officially titled Compton, it’s arguably already classic worthy and will probably be the 2nd album to go platinum this year.

Lets do not forget the fact that Straight Outta Compton movie is in theaters now and it’s looking like the new Hip Hop classic.

All these accomplishments add to Dre’s now very polished public image.

One could quickly forget that Dre has a long history of abuse and assault (allegedly) on women, that dates all the way back to the early 90s.

In a cover story for the publication, Dre reflected on his troublesome past, including the 1991 incident in which he allegedly assaulted TV host Dee Barnes, as well as more recent abuse allegations from ex-fiancée and R&B singer Michel’le.

I made some f***ing horrible mistakes in my life. I was young, f***ing stupid. I would say all the allegations aren’t true—some of them are. Those are some of the things that I would like to take back. It was really f***ed up. But I paid for those mistakes, and there’s no way in hell that I will ever make another mistake like that again.”

Also, Ice Cube opened up on a similar topic and addressed N.W.A’s misogynistic lyrics. He clarified that they didn’t apply to all women the same way calling someone a “punk” or “coward” would not apply to all men.

If you’re a b****, you’re probably not going to like us. If you’re a ho, you probably don’t like us. If you’re not a ho or a b****, don’t be jumping to the defense of these despicable females. Just like I shouldn’t be jumping to the defense of no punks or no cowards or no slimy son of a b****es that’s men. I never understood why an upstanding lady would even think we’re talking about her.”

In this point in time, there’s nothing that has happened recently that suggest that Dre is the same person who did those things in the past. Yeah, I know people don’t change, but you can change the way you handle things and your circumstances play a big part in that. Obviously, these days Dre’s circumstances have changed drastically.
