Talk about a slow burn, to many this song still seems like a relatively new track but the truth is, “Trap Queen” has been out since December 15th of last year.
It’s slow but inevitable rise to popularity was social and very organic and now it has spilled over into the mainstream.
Last time we checked, Fetty Wap’s breakthrough single was awarded a Gold plaque by the RIAA on April 20th. It took the slow burner 4 months to push 500,000 units and, if we believe Jimmy Fallon’s announcement, only less than 3 weeks to double up the numbers.
The New Jersey native stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform his ultimate banger with a little help from The Roots last night. Before the artist invaded the stage, the host introduced him to the audience and stated “Trap Queen” is now certified Platinum.
It’s officially graduated from street banger to the new unlikely white girl anthem, similar to Bobby Shmurda’s “Hot Boy.”
This is definitely a big look for Fetty Wap, who just released the official remix to “Trap Queen” as well as a Drake assisted remix of “My Way,” which Wiz Khalifa wasn’t too pleased with.
