Rich Homie Quan Is the First Independent Artist to Top Urban Radio Since 2006

Who would have thought Rich Homie Quan would be the one that would become the blueprint for what an Independent artist is capable of.

The last time an independent artist dominated the Urban radio charts was back in 2006 which is way back especially if you’re counting in Internet time. It was from one-hit wonder DJ Unk who owned the airwaves with his smash single “Walk It out,” which was released via Big Oomp/Koch. Fast forward almost 9 years later, Rich Homie Quan achieves the same status with his “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ohh)” single.

According to Mediabase, the fan-favorite song gained 200 spins this week and overtook the previous number 1, Rihanna’s “B**** Better Have My Money” by 400 play. The track was released on February 10th via RHQ’s Think It’s A Game Records and distributed by EMPIRE.
